Earthen Lamp Round Up – February 2020

The Earthen Lamp team has “leaped” across February – we have been kick starting new projects, finalising reports and meeting up with friends across the region.

  • We started our work with Keele University, evaluating the role of volunteer archivists working on its Small Bills and Petty Finances project. The university has created this short video summarising the project and includes interviews with some of the volunteers involved. It’s a neat and easy to follow summary of what will be an interesting insight into British social history.

  •

  • We’ve started interviewing artists delivering workshops for Birmingham REP’s inter-generational community project working with 10 schools in Birmingham titled Creative Communities. This will form part of Earthen Lamp’s study measuring the impact of the project on those delivering and taking part.
  •

  • With our friends at Sampad we’re working to create a cultural audit framework for the arts and culture provision in Solihull at Solihull Council.
  •

  • We welcome new client ArtReach and have been speaking with audiences and visitors at the Liberty UK pop-up festival which took place in Leicester from 5 – 8 March.
  •

  • At Warwick Arts Centre we interviewed audiences at Humans At Work, a theatre piece drawing on interviews with the local community in Coventry, specifically factory workers who worked at the General Electric Company in the 50s, 60s and 70s. This was part of the Coventry Great Place scheme which Earthen Lamp is evaluating.
  •

  • On 14 February we attended SPARK, a one-day symposium run by Warwick District Council which aimed to “turn creative talk into creative action”. Vishalakshi ran a well-attended session that focused on Audience Data from the District. You can download her presentation, and other presentations from the event here.
